Welcome to Fajardo Region!
Lush rain forests, postcard-perfect beaches and translucent waters are a reality beyond the travel brochures in the Fajardo Region. This slice of island paradise basks on the east coast of Puerto Rico and includes the islets of Culebra and Vieques, both of which epitomize a tropical Eden. A mere half hour from San Juan, the Farjardo Region is where nature lovers and water-sports enthusiasts invariably end up. This sparkling nautical destination is a boating and scuba diving hub, fringed by nature reserves and forest. The city of Fajardo stakes claim to the largest marina in the Caribbean and is naturally at the heart of the region's boating culture with a deluge of charters, rentals and tours. It also boasts pretty public beaches such as Seven Seas, and provides access to the islands of Culebra and Vieques, where idyllic and secluded shorelines await. Culebra is also a nesting ground for giant sea turtles at the Culebra National Wildlife Refuge, while Vieques is known for the surreal phosphorescence of Mosquito Bay.Back on the mainland, Luquillo offers up a stunning stretch of sand sheltered by a plantation of coconut palms at Luquillo Beach. Sub-tropical rain forest can be explored along hiking trails reaching into the clouds at the nearby El Yunque National Forest and visitors can observe birds, manatees and turtles in Ceiba's fascinating mangrove forest. Humacao is the Fajardo Region's largest city, and while it bustles with ocean-side resorts, hotels, restaurants and shops, it too boasts impressive natural assets such as the Humacao National Reserve.
